학교 첫 수업이 시작됩니다. 9시에 강당에서 개학식이 있습니다. 가을학기 프로그램에 등록해 주신 학부모 여러분께 감사드립니다. 일찍 등록해 주셔서, 저희는 학생들을 맞이할 준비, 즉 반 배정, 담임 및 부담임 결정, 문화수업 결정, 새 교사 채용등을 모두 마칠 수 있었습니다. 이번 주말이면 각 반의 담임선생님들께서 새 학기에 관해서 연락을 드릴것입니다. 혹시 아직 등록결정을 못 하신 학부모님들께서는 아직 늦지 않았으니, 등록하시면 됩니다.
다음은 이번학기에 새롭게 단장한 부분들을 소개드립니다. 먼저 태권도 선생님으로 John Kim 이 새로 오셨습니다. John 사범님은 현 태권도 4단으로 1981년에 태권도를 배우기 시작하여 1984년에 black belt를 취득한 후 태권도 사범으로 일하시면서 많은 대회에 참석하여 상을 취득하셨습니다. 특히 이번 여름에는 오레곤 포트랜드에서 열린 미국 국제 챔피언쉽 페스티벌에서 master level에서 영예의 1등상을 취득하였습니다. 훌륭하신 선생님에게 저희 학생들이 배우게 되어서 너무 기쁘고, 학생들의 태권도 실력이 부쩍 향상되리라 확신합니다. 현재 John 선생님은 아내와 두 아이와 함께 맨하탄에 살고 계십니다.
올해에는 저희가 문화수업의 하나로 한국민요 수업을 제공합니다. 한국예술 시간이 우리 학생들에게 한국문화에 대한 많은 관심과 인기를 끌어왔듯, 한국민요 수업도 민요의 장단과 노래의 가사를 통하여 민요안에 담긴 한국인의 얼과 정서를 접할 수 있는 시간을 학생들에게 제공해 주리라 믿습니다. 이 수업은 지금까지 Mommy & Me 수업을 맡아오신 김아영 교감선생님이 지도해 주십니다. 김아영선생님은 맨해튼의 음악학교에서 음악을 전공하신 분으로 그동안 민요지도에남다른 관심을 가지고 계셨고, 선생님의 탁월한 음악적 능력은 학생들에게 특별한 경험을 제공해주실것입니다.

Hope all are having a good summer.
We are starting the fall semester on Sep 7. The opening ceremony is at 9:00am at the auditorium. We thank all the parents for registering the fall semester early and for giving us an opportunity to support your child’s learning Korean and Korean culture. Your early registration / early decision to register helped us finalize the staffing and class placement early and hire new staff in a timely manner. This weekend, your child’s teacher will contact you and let you know of the general guidelines of the new class. If there is any parent who didn’t make a decision yet or forgot to register, they can still register.
I want to share a few good news with the parents and families. I am excited to inform you that John Kim, the Taekwondo instructor, has joined MKS as a new Taekwondo teacher. John Kim began his martial arts training in 1981 and achieved the level of black belt in 1984. He has extensive experience in teaching, competing and demonstrating over the years. Currently, he is a 4th degree master level instructor. Most recently, he participated in the US National Festival & Championship in Portland, OR this summer and earned 1st place in the master level form division. He, wife and 2 children reside in Manhattan. I am certain that his skills and experience will extend and level up our students’ skills.
I am also excited to inform you that we are providing the Korean Folk Song Class for students from Orange class and up. As the students get exposed to the lyrics, beats, and melodies in the Korean folk songs, they will be able to experience the Korean spirits and culture embedded in the songs. Ahyoung Kim, our VP, will be the instructor. Ms. Kim studied music at the music school in Manhattan and has been having a lot of interest in teaching the Korean Folk Song. I am certain that her interest and knowledge and the teaching experience will offer a special experience to our students.
I am sure that these new changes will bring a fun and exciting learning and successful outcomes.
