안녕하세요? 맨해튼 한국학교를 찾아주셔서 감사합니다.
저희 맨해튼 한국학교는 35년의 역사와 전통을 자랑하는 한국학교로서 학생들에게 한국어와 한국의 역사/문화를 소개하고 가르치며 한국의 문화와 언어를 잘 이해함으로써 코리안 아메리칸의 정체성 발견 및 향상에 도움을 주는데 교육목표를 두고 있습니다. 또한 건전한 시민교육을 함으로써 미국의 한인 사회와 주류 사회에 기여하는 코리안 아메리칸 지도자 양성에 도움을 주며 세계시민으로 성장할 수 있도록 동기부여를 하고 육성하는 데 그 목표를 두고 있습니다.
한국의 경제가 발전하고 한국의 위상이 높아짐에 따라 영어와 한국어를 모두 잘하는 전문인에 대한 수요가 늘고 있는 시대인 만큼 저희도 학생들에게 한국어 교육이 ‘뿌리교육’의 의미를 넘어서 ‘실용교육’과 ‘문화 전달’을 해 줄 수있는 교육이 되어야 한다는 시대적 사명을 또한 가지고 있습니다.
맨해튼 한국학교는 한글교육에 대한 전문지식과 경험을 겸비한 준비된 선생님들이 학생들의 나이와 수준에 적합한 커리큘럼과 교육방법을 도입하고 개발하여 서적, 동화책, 음악, 게임, 영상등 다양한 교수법 및 학습활동을 통하여 한글을 가르치고 있으며, 동화구연대회, 문화체험의 날, Korean Parade등을 통하여 한국인으로서의 소양을 쌓는데 에도 초점을 맞추어 교육하고 있습니다.
맨해튼 한국학교는 안전하고 쾌적한 교육시설을 무엇보다도 중요시 여기고 학생들이 편하고 안전하게 배우고 뛰놀고 성장하는 전인교육의 터를 제공하는데 늘 주의를 기울입니다. 무엇보다도 훌륭하고 자상한 학부모님의 격려와 도움은 저희 학교의 큰 재산이자 자랑거리이며, 학부모회와 교사간의 긴밀한 연결과 대화 그리고 협조는 저희 학교가 날마다 새롭고 변화되는 학교로 성장할 수 있게 해주는 강한 힘을 제공하고 더 나은 교육환경 을 마련할 수 있도록 해줍니다.
재미한국학교 협의회 회원학교인 저희학교는 끊임없는 교사양성과 교육개발을 통하여 학생들이 친구도 사귀며 재미있게 배우고 지혜롭게 자라는 열린 공간 이 되도록 하며, 학부모님들 또한 다양한 문화를 서로 같이 나누고 한국문화도 체험해 보는 문화교류의 공간을 제공할 수 있도록 최선을 다 하겠습니다.

Welcome to the Manhattan Korean School! We are proud to celebrate 35 years of Korean-American education in lower Manhattan. We share Korean history, language and culture with our students, and help our students develop a Korean-American identity.
Today’s world is increasingly connected and multicultural and Korean communities and peoples are spread across the world. Demand for bilingual and multicultural Korean-American professionals is growing, and it is our goal to inspire future leaders who will engage with Korean-American communities and be ambassadors of Korean culture here and abroad.
Our knowledgeable and caring teachers provide age appropriate curriculum not only in the language, but also in Korean music, arts, and Taekwondo. Students develop their identity by participating in events such as Culture Day, storytelling competitions, poster contests, and more.
The students’ safety and security is our priority and we focus on created a pleasant and safe educational space. We pride ourselves on a collaborative relationship among students, parents, and teachers. This enables our school to grow and become the best place it can be.
As a member of the NAKS (National Association for Korean Schools), our staff participates in professional development to maintain the high quality of our education programs. We want our education to enrich not only our students, but also our parents; a space where anyone can experience a different culture, and share their own.

Our Teachers
맨해튼 한국학교는 아동교육학을 전공하여 한국에서 15년 이상의 초등학교 교사경력이 있으신 선생님을 비롯하여, 뉴욕시 사립학교나 공립학교에서 현지 교사경력 20년, 혹은중등학교에서 한국어 교사로 재직중인 선생님, 특수교육학을전공하여발달장에 아동의 언어나 신체 발달치료를 하고 계신 선생님,음악교육을전공하고음악교육전문가로풍부한 교사 경험을 가지고 계신선생님들로 구성되어 있습니다. 이렇게 다양한 분야헤서 석사와박사학위를소유하고계신선생님들이 전문성을 가지고, 학생들의 교육에 힘쓰고 있습니다. 또한 한국문화와예술과목은 콜럼비아대학미술교육대학박사공부에 정진하신 선생님의 이론과 예술을 병합한 창의적인 교수업으로 이루어집니다. Parson및 School of Visual Arts를졸업하신선생님그리고음악선생님으로서는맨해튼에있는유명음악학교에서전문 연주자 과정을 마치고 음악가로 명성을 떨치시고 계신 선생님들이 팀이 되어, 학생들의 감성과 예술정을 발달시키는데 주력하고 있습니다.
맨해튼 한국학교 선생님들은 단지 한국어만 휼륭하게 가르치는게 아닙니다. 그들은 학생들을 보살피고 이끌어주며 학생들이 한국문화와 미국문화의 두 문화의 다른 점을 배우고 이해할 수 있도록 도와주고 학생들의 정체성을 확립할 수 있도록 멘토의 역할도 하고 있습니다.
Our staff at Manhattan Korean School is highly qualified. We attract individuals who have impressive education credentials that include Master’s degrees in Education and English, and even Doctorate candidates. Some of our teachers have many years of teaching experience and are currently teaching the Korean language, and some work with students in Special Needs in New York Public Schools. The music teachers are professional musicians who have accomplished Master’s degrees at schools that include the Manhattan School of Music, New York University, and Mannes School of Music.
We are proud to work with a Doctorate degree candidate at Teachers’ College, Columbia University, who enriches students’ artistic thinking and creative skills through Korean arts and crafts. Our teachers not only teach in the classroom, but also serve as mentors for our students, helping them to bridge the gap between theirs and Korean culture.
