2014년 가을에 개설 된 맨해튼 한국학교의 Mommy &Me Music& Art Class는 맨해튼 한국학교 정규 과정 이전의 프로그램으로서 (Pre-MKS) 연령대상은 1세 이상에서 3세 이하까지의 유아와 그들의 부모님 혹은 보호자 입니다.
수업시간은 매주 9시부터 10시15분까지이며, 수업은 한국어로 진행되고 있습니다. 아이들은 노래하기, 리듬에 맞추어 말하기, 손가락 유희, 음악에 맞추어 움직이며 춤추기, 듣고 따라하기, 리듬악기 연주하기, 동화 듣기 와 같은 다양한 음악 활동에 노출되며, 매주 다른 주제의 미술 수업으로 연결시켜 아이들에게 다른 쟝르의 배움이 일어날 수 있도록 도와줍니다.
한국어를 전혀 모르는 부모님들도 자녀와 함께 더불어 이 수업을 통하여 한국어를 배우고 있습니다. 이 수업을 통하여 아이들은 언어발달 뿐만이 아니라 자신감 증진, 자아형성, 정서발달, 사회성 발달 및 집중력, 청취력, 박자감각, 그리고 소, 대근육의 발달을 가져오며 더불어 부모님과의 유대관계를 발전시켜 나가게 됩니다.
Mommy & Me 수업은 처음으로 학교생활을 하게 될 아이들이 단체생활에 잘 적응할 수 있도록 준비시켜 주고, MKS정규과정을 준비하는 분홍반 아이들에게도 새 환경에 적응하는데 도움을 많이 주고 있습니다.
The class, “Mommy &Me” has started in September 2014 for children 1-3 years of age to provide an opportunity to learn Korean Language through music and arts in an early age.
For young children’s emotional safety and security, the class requires parent(s) or guardian(s) to stay with a child while the class is in session. We have noticed that more and more fathers are participating in the class.
The class is instructed in Korean from 9:00-10:15. The program consists of activities such as: singing, dancing, playing instruments, finger playing, movement, Read alouds, and storytelling. The class is extended to engaging in arts and crafts.
The Mommy and Me Music and Arts class helps children develop language skills including listening skills and speaking skills, musical skills like rhythm, and various of social and emotional skills such as attention skills, social interaction, self-confidence, self-esteem and enhances parent/child bonding.
It also promote fine motor skills such as eye-hand coordination. This class will help young children who are starting school for the first time and the children who are starting the Pink class in MKS.
